Just so everyone knows (and in case there was some sort of hit put out on me because I hadn't started it) I've officially started reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (so please, call off the hitmen.) Anyway, I have been told by several staff members, and everyone else that has read it and talked to me about it, that this book is totally amazing and I have to read it. Patrick Rothfuss even came to our store for a last minute author event, and I have a signed hardcover copy sitting on my bookshelf since then, but I hadn't had the chance to read it until now (and just so you all know, I'm an English major so it's not like I didn't have to read book after book for school.)
But anyway, I started it this morning and I'm somewhere around page 12. Needless to say, the writing is great, and I can't wait to get back to it. I'm not reading it very quickly, though. Being a writer myself I've started to pay attention to writing. I can ignore writing if I'm reading junk (okay, that's not true - I refuse to read the paper mainly because journalists have never proven to me that they have a college degree by putting what they learned in college into their writings, but that's another issue altogether) but this isn't junk, so it may take me a while to read it. But the important thing is that i started it!
